  • Overview

    This Sr. HR Generalist is based out of the Detroit Station and supports assigned business units on ‘first level’ Employee Relations issues. We are seeking a proactive communicator and change agent, who can successfully balance employee needs with business objectives to create integrated solutions. With directional support from HR leadership and HR Centers of Excellence, the HRBP acts as a consultative business leader for company management to ensure effective alignment of HR support with strategic organizational objectives.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist management in improving organizational effectiveness by analyzing departmental structures and evaluating options, studying resources and ensuring optimal utilization, assessing Team Member climate, morale and effectiveness and developing action plans for improvement.
    • Monitor employee relations within assigned business units by analyzing trends, developing action plans, and assisting management with addressing issues and resolving conflicts.
    • Plan and direct implementation of policies and procedures to ensure consistent delivery of compensation programs, training and development programs, employment programs, and employee services programs.
    • Participate in investigation of complaints and delivers effective and practical solutions; resolves and responds to ‘first level’ Team Member complaints filed. 
    • Ensure policies, procedures and programs are administered in compliance with all legal and ethical standards in addition to being compliant with Federal, State and local posting requirements.
    • Communicate and ensure understanding of laws, regulations, CBAs and organizational practices and policies related to employment.
    • Recommend and effectively communicate HR practices, policies, procedures and initiatives, makes practice change recommendations.
    • Serve as a change agent by taking calculated risks, championing innovative ideas to gain support and manage/mitigate outcomes.
    • Supports quality sourcing and talent selection by knowing position requirements, managing hourly and 1st level mgmt. recruitment (Talent Acquisition) assignments, and reducing the cycle time to fill positions.
    • Assist with performance development plans (PDPs) and employee development programs.
    • Support and facilitate educational/developmental programs and initiatives.
    • Formulates and edits disciplinary notices and violation correspondence with Sr. HR Business Partner and provides individualized, direct, actionable and corrective feedback holding coaching and development discussions with Supervisory level leadership.
    • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change due to operational needs.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree and experience with 3-5 years progressive HR experience with proven results
    • PHR/SPHR/GPHR Certification preferred.
    • Proven ability to challenge and motivate management teams in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
    • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express and logically articulate point of view.
    • Ability to effectively utilize HR dashboard metrics with business groups.
    • Must be a highly organized individual, able to work independently and capable of working in a fast paced/deadline driven environment.
    • Uses and is familiar with different interviewing and investigative techniques
    • Demonstrated project management skill and organizational skills. 
    • Experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements and unionized work force.
    • Expertise in HR policies and procedures.
    • Strong knowledge of hiring processes.
    • Understanding of HR best practices and federal and state regulations.
    • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills.
    • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
